Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has reported a strong sales performance for the second quarter of FY27, recording its highest-ever quarterly passenger vehicle sales. The company sold 2,01,723 units during Q2 FY27, registering a 40% year-on-year increase over the 1,44,397 units sold in the same quarter last year.
The strong performance was supported by growing demand for electric vehicles and CNG-powered models, while Tata’s SUV portfolio also continued to contribute significantly to overall volumes.
Tata Motors Q2 FY27 Sales Cross 2 Lakh Units
Tata Motors sold 2,01,723 passenger vehicles during the July-September quarter of FY27. This compares with 1,44,397 units in Q2 FY26, representing a 40% year-on-year growth.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,96,674 units, compared with 1,40,189 units in the corresponding quarter last year. International passenger vehicle sales also increased to 5,049 units from 4,208 units.
The latest performance marks an important milestone for Tata Motors as the company crossed the two-lakh-unit quarterly sales mark for the first time.

September 2026 Sales Cross 70,000 Units
Tata Motors finished the quarter with a strong September performance. The company sold 70,210 passenger vehicles during the month, compared with 60,907 units in September 2025.
This represents a 15% year-on-year increase and also marks the first time Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles crossed the 70,000-unit monthly sales milestone.
Domestic sales accounted for 68,810 units in September, while international markets contributed 1,400 units.
Tata EV Sales Rise 90%
Electric vehicles were one of the biggest contributors to Tata’s Q2 growth. The company sold 47,150 EVs during the quarter, compared with 24,855 units in Q2 FY26.
This represents a significant 90% year-on-year increase in Tata’s EV sales.
EVs accounted for around 23% of Tata’s total passenger vehicle sales during the quarter. September alone saw 15,384 EVs sold, representing a 67% increase compared with 9,191 units in September 2025.

CNG Models Also Record Strong Demand
Tata’s CNG portfolio also delivered its strongest-ever quarterly performance during Q2 FY27.
CNG models contributed approximately 28% of Tata’s quarterly passenger vehicle sales. When EV and CNG sales are combined, alternative powertrains accounted for around 51% of the company’s total quarterly passenger vehicle volumes.
This highlights the growing importance of both electric and CNG models within Tata’s passenger vehicle portfolio.
Tata Punch Remains a Key Volume Model
The Tata Punch continued to play an important role in the company’s sales performance. Tata Motors reported that the Punch was India’s highest-selling SUV during Q2 FY27.
The model is available with multiple powertrain choices, including petrol, CNG and electric versions. This gives customers the option to choose between conventional and alternative powertrains within the same model family.
The Punch’s combination of compact dimensions, SUV-inspired styling and multiple powertrain choices has helped it remain an important product in Tata’s portfolio.
New Tata Models Strengthen the Portfolio
Tata Motors has also expanded its product range with several new launches during FY27. The company’s recent additions include the Tata Sierra Legend Series, Tata Aeris and Curvv SeriesX.
The Sierra adds a new premium SUV option to Tata’s range, while the Aeris has replaced the Tigor in the company’s personal-car portfolio.
Tata has also continued expanding its electric vehicle line-up with products such as the Harrier EV, giving the company a wider presence across India’s growing EV market.
Tata Cars Enter the Festive Season
The strong Q2 performance comes ahead of India’s important festive car-buying season. Tata Motors is entering this period with a broader product portfolio and increasing demand for EV and CNG vehicles.
The company’s 40% quarterly growth was also higher than the overall industry growth reported for the same period, indicating that Tata gained additional momentum during the quarter.
New products and updated variants could further support sales as manufacturers compete for customers during the festive period.
Why Tata Cars Sales Are Growing
Tata’s latest sales numbers highlight several important trends in the company’s passenger vehicle business.
The first is the rapid growth of its EV portfolio. A 90% increase in quarterly EV sales shows that electric models are becoming a larger part of Tata’s overall business.
CNG vehicles are also contributing significantly, accounting for approximately 28% of quarterly sales. Together, these two powertrain categories now represent more than half of Tata’s passenger vehicle volumes.
At the same time, Tata’s strong SUV portfolio continues to provide substantial sales volumes across different price segments.

The company’s expanding EV range, growing CNG portfolio and new launches could remain important factors for its sales performance in the coming months. The festive season will provide another major opportunity for manufacturers to attract customers with new models, offers and updated products.
For Tata, maintaining the momentum generated during Q2 will be important as competition continues to increase across India’s SUV, CNG and electric vehicle segments.
Market Positioning
Tata Motors’ Q2 FY27 performance demonstrates how significantly its passenger vehicle business has expanded compared with the same period last year. Total quarterly sales crossed 2 lakh units, while EV sales nearly doubled year on year.
The growing contribution from CNG and electric models also shows that Tata’s passenger vehicle portfolio is increasingly diversified across different powertrain technologies.
