The next-gen Jeep Compass has surfaced in India through a patent drawing, giving enthusiasts an early look at the SUV’s new-generation design. The patent appearance is particularly interesting because the new Compass had previously been reported as being shelved for India due to the high cost of its new platform.
The latest patent filing suggests that Jeep could still be evaluating opportunities for the next-generation Compass in India, although the company has not officially announced an India launch or confirmed a timeline yet.
Next-Gen Jeep Compass Design Revealed
The patent images reveal a significantly redesigned exterior compared with the current Compass. The front gets a new interpretation of Jeep’s signature grille, while the overall body appears more modern and upright.
The window line now extends towards the D-pillar, giving the SUV a more substantial side profile. The rear section features chunky cladding, reinforcing the rugged styling expected from a Jeep.
The patent design also shows large 20-inch wheels with a simpler alloy pattern. This gives the new Compass a more premium appearance while retaining the brand’s traditionally tough SUV character.

New Jeep Compass Interior Gets a Technology Upgrade
The cabin is expected to be significantly more modern than the current-generation model. The global next-generation Compass uses a technology-focused dashboard with a large central touchscreen.
The India patent report indicates a 16-inch central touchscreen and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster. Other reported equipment includes a wireless charger, electronic parking brake and rotary drive selector.
This would represent a major step forward for the Compass, particularly as premium SUVs in India continue to add larger displays, connected technology and more advanced driver-assistance features.
Diesel Engine Could Be Dropped
One of the biggest changes could be under the bonnet. The next-generation Compass is expected to move away from diesel power and adopt a multi-powertrain strategy.
According to the latest report, the SUV could be offered internationally with electric, 48V mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
The reported 48V mild-hybrid setup produces 134bhp and 230Nm from the combustion engine, with the electric motor contributing an additional 27.6bhp and 50Nm.
This would mark a significant departure from the diesel-powered Compass currently sold in India.

Jeep Compass Electric Could Offer Around 500km Range
The electric version is expected to be one of the most important versions of the new Compass. The reported EV uses a 74kWh battery pack and develops 210bhp and 345Nm.
Its claimed WLTP range is up to around 500km, which would make it considerably more practical for long-distance use than many compact electric SUVs currently available.
The global next-generation Compass is based on Stellantis’ STLA Medium architecture, which has been designed to accommodate multiple powertrain technologies, including fully electric propulsion.
Plug-In Hybrid Compass Could Offer Long Combined Range
The plug-in hybrid version could be another major highlight. The reported PHEV setup produces a combined 222bhp and 350Nm.
It is expected to use a 17.9kWh battery, allowing an estimated electric-only range of around 80km. The reported combined driving range can reach approximately 982km under the quoted test conditions.
For markets where charging infrastructure is still developing, this type of powertrain could offer a useful compromise between electric driving and conventional long-distance usability.
What Happened to the India Launch?
The Jeep Compass India launch story is complicated. In 2024, reports indicated that Stellantis had shelved the India-specific next-generation Compass project because the STLA-M platform was considered too expensive for the market.
The earlier project reportedly required a large investment and did not appear commercially viable at the expected volumes. Stellantis instead planned to keep the existing Compass in production with periodic updates.
However, the new patent appearance in India has once again raised questions about Jeep’s future plans for the Compass.
A patent filing by itself does not confirm production or an India launch, so buyers should wait for an official announcement from Jeep.
Could the New Compass Return to India?
The latest development makes the possibility more interesting, but there is still no confirmed launch timeline.
Jeep’s strategy for India is evolving, with Stellantis also confirming plans for a new Jeep SUV to be developed and manufactured in India using a Tata Motors-supplied architecture for global markets. That model is targeted for a 2028 launch and is separate from the next-generation Compass discussed here.
Therefore, the patent should currently be viewed as an indication of interest rather than confirmation that the new Compass will enter Indian showrooms.
Expected Jeep Compass Rivals
If the next-generation Compass eventually returns to India, it would compete in a highly competitive premium SUV market.
The SUV could face rivals such as the Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Tiguan, Citroen C5 Aircross and other upcoming hybrid and electric SUVs.
An electric Compass could also compete with premium EVs positioned around the same size and price bracket, depending on Jeep’s final India strategy.
Jeep Compass Price in India
There is currently no confirmed price for the next-generation Jeep Compass in India because Jeep has not announced the model’s India launch.
The existing Compass continues to be sold in India, while the new-generation model’s local production, powertrain mix and positioning remain uncertain.
If Jeep eventually brings the new Compass to India, its pricing will depend heavily on whether the company chooses local manufacturing, imports the vehicle or develops a market-specific version.
Market Positioning
The next-generation Jeep Compass represents a major technological shift for the nameplate. The move towards electric, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains reflects the changing direction of the global SUV market.
Its new design, larger touchscreen, digital cockpit and electrified powertrains could make it considerably more advanced than the current Compass. However, the biggest question remains whether Jeep will actually bring this generation to India.
AutoXRoom Verdict
The India patent filing has put the next-gen Jeep Compass back into the spotlight. The new SUV looks more modern, gets a significantly upgraded cabin and moves towards electrified powertrains instead of relying on diesel.
However, the patent filing alone does not confirm an India launch. Jeep has previously shelved the India next-gen Compass project because of cost concerns, so the final decision will depend on the company’s manufacturing and business strategy.
For now, the new Compass is an exciting possibility for India, but buyers should wait for an official announcement before treating the patent as a confirmed launch.
