Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Launch on October 15: Expected Price, Mileage, Engine and Features

Mahindra is preparing to expand the XUV 3XO lineup with a new fuel option. The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is set to make its India debut on 15 October 2026, adding a factory-fitted CNG powertrain to the company’s popular compact SUV. The new version will join the existing petrol, diesel and electric versions, giving the XUV 3XO one of the widest powertrain choices in its segment.

The upcoming CNG variant is particularly significant because Mahindra has so far focused heavily on petrol and diesel engines in this category. With CNG becoming increasingly popular among buyers looking for lower running costs, the new version could help the XUV 3XO attract a different set of customers.

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Launch Date

The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG launch date in India has been confirmed as 15 October 2026.

The CNG model will become the fourth powertrain option for the compact SUV. It will be sold alongside petrol, diesel and electric versions, giving customers considerably more choice within a single XUV 3XO model line.

Mahindra is expected to reveal the complete specifications, variants and pricing around the debut.

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Engine

The upcoming CNG version is expected to use the 1.2-litre turbocharged MPFi petrol engine.

In its petrol configuration, this engine produces approximately 112bhp and 200Nm. The CNG version is expected to deliver lower power and torque when operating on natural gas, as is common with CNG applications.

The MPFi engine is particularly suitable for CNG because it is less complicated to adapt for gas operation than the direct-injection 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine available in higher-performance XUV 3XO variants.

The more powerful direct-injection turbo-petrol engine is therefore unlikely to be offered with the CNG system.

XUV 3XO CNG Could Be a Turbocharged CNG SUV

One of the biggest talking points could be the use of a turbocharged engine with CNG.

Most CNG-powered passenger vehicles in India use naturally aspirated petrol engines. Mahindra’s decision to adapt its 1.2-litre turbo MPFi engine could give the XUV 3XO CNG a stronger performance advantage compared with conventional naturally aspirated CNG SUVs.

The final CNG power and torque figures, however, are yet to be officially announced.

Expected Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Mileage

Mahindra has not yet revealed the official fuel-efficiency figure for the new CNG variant.

However, high mileage will be one of the main reasons buyers consider the XUV 3XO CNG. The CNG powertrain is expected to deliver significantly lower running costs than the petrol version, particularly for customers covering high monthly distances.

Current XUV 3XO petrol variants have an official claimed efficiency of around 18.89kmpl for the 1.2-litre petrol manual version. The CNG model’s certified figure is expected to be revealed at launch.

Real-world efficiency will depend on traffic conditions, driving style, air-conditioning use and the percentage of driving done in city traffic.

XUV 3XO CNG Boot Space Could Be a Challenge

The biggest engineering challenge for Mahindra will be packaging the CNG tank.

The XUV 3XO already has a relatively compact boot, so adding a conventional large CNG cylinder could reduce usable luggage space.

Mahindra could potentially use a dual-cylinder layout or another space-efficient packaging solution. Tata has already demonstrated the advantages of dual-cylinder CNG packaging on some of its models, but Mahindra’s final arrangement will only become clear when the SUV is officially unveiled.

For family buyers, boot space could therefore be an important consideration when comparing the CNG model with its petrol and diesel siblings.

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Transmission

The transmission options for the CNG model have not yet been officially confirmed.

The existing XUV 3XO range uses different manual, automatic and AMT configurations depending on the engine. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is available with a six-speed manual and six-speed torque-converter automatic, while the diesel gets manual and AMT options.

For the CNG version, Mahindra could initially focus on a manual gearbox to keep costs and complexity under control.

If an automatic CNG variant is introduced later, it could make the XUV 3XO particularly attractive to urban buyers.

XUV 3XO CNG Features

The CNG variant is expected to retain much of the equipment available on the corresponding petrol versions.

Depending on the selected trim, the XUV 3XO range already offers features such as a large 26.03cm HD infotainment display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, rear-view camera, connected technology and premium interior equipment.

Higher variants also offer a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance technology.

Whether Mahindra offers the CNG powertrain across multiple variants or restricts it to specific trims will be announced around the launch.

XUV 3XO CNG Safety

Safety is another area where the XUV 3XO already has a strong equipment package.

Depending on the variant, the SUV offers multiple airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, parking sensors and a range of driver-assistance features.

The higher-spec XUV 3XO versions also feature Level 2 ADAS, which is unusual for an affordable compact SUV.

Mahindra is expected to retain the core safety structure and equipment with the CNG model, although exact variant-wise specifications will be confirmed at launch.

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Price in India

The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG price in India has not been announced yet.

The regular XUV 3XO currently starts at around ₹7.79 lakh ex-showroom, while the range extends to ₹15.04 lakh for the top variants.

The CNG version is expected to command a premium over the equivalent petrol variant because of the factory-fitted CNG hardware.

A price in the broad ₹9 lakh–₹13 lakh ex-showroom region could make the CNG XUV 3XO competitive, although the actual pricing will depend on the selected variants and equipment.

XUV 3XO Gets Four Powertrain Options

With the introduction of CNG, the XUV 3XO will have an unusually diverse powertrain portfolio.

The range will include a petrol engine, diesel engine, CNG engine and electric powertrain.

The electric XUV 3XO uses a 39.4kWh battery and claims a range of up to 285km, while the ICE range includes both turbo-petrol and diesel engines.

This allows Mahindra to target customers with very different requirements without forcing them to switch to a different SUV model.

XUV 3XO CNG vs Tata Nexon CNG

The Tata Nexon CNG will be one of the most important competitors for the upcoming XUV 3XO CNG.

Both SUVs offer a compact-SUV body style, modern features and factory-fitted CNG technology. However, the XUV 3XO could differentiate itself with its turbocharged CNG engine, stronger SUV design and Mahindra’s technology package.

The Nexon has already established itself as one of the most successful compact SUVs in India, so Mahindra’s CNG entry could intensify the competition between the two models.

XUV 3XO CNG vs Maruti Brezza CNG

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG is another major rival.

Maruti has a strong advantage in the CNG market because of its extensive CNG portfolio and established customer base. The new 2026 Brezza has also received mechanical and feature updates, making the segment even more competitive.

Mahindra will therefore need to balance pricing, mileage and equipment carefully to make the XUV 3XO CNG stand out.

Why the CNG Variant Matters for Mahindra

The arrival of the CNG model is important for Mahindra beyond simply adding another fuel option.

CNG provides buyers with a lower-cost alternative to petrol while avoiding the higher upfront price associated with an EV. It can also help Mahindra reduce average emissions from its passenger-vehicle portfolio at a time when fuel-efficiency and emissions regulations are becoming increasingly important.

CNG accounted for a significant portion of India’s passenger-vehicle fuel mix in FY2026, making it an attractive area for manufacturers looking to expand their offerings.

Market Positioning

The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG could become one of the most interesting CNG launches in the compact SUV category this year.

Its biggest advantage could be the combination of a turbocharged engine and CNG, while its biggest question mark remains the packaging of the CNG tank and the resulting impact on boot space.

With petrol, diesel, CNG and electric versions available, Mahindra is effectively turning the XUV 3XO into a one-model solution for customers with very different fuel preferences.

AutoXRoom Verdict

The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG has the potential to strengthen an already successful compact SUV lineup. Its 15 October 2026 debut will finally reveal the most important details, including certified mileage, CNG tank configuration, variant availability, power output and pricing.

If Mahindra manages to deliver competitive mileage without sacrificing too much boot space, the new CNG version could become a strong alternative to the Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Brezza CNG.

The combination of a turbocharged MPFi engine, SUV styling and Mahindra’s feature-rich package makes the XUV 3XO CNG worth watching closely when it officially arrives on October 15.
