Jaguar has officially entered a completely new chapter with the global unveiling of its first production model under its new electric-only strategy. The Jaguar Type 01 has now been revealed as a dramatic four-door electric GT, and production-spec examples have been spotted following the global premiere.
The Type 01 is the production successor to the radical Type 00 concept that previewed Jaguar’s new design direction. Unlike the concept’s two-door appearance, the production model uses a four-door GT body while retaining the long bonnet, low roofline and wide stance that made the concept one of the most talked-about Jaguar designs.
Jaguar says the Type 01 is its most technically advanced, powerful and aerodynamic road car yet. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, with customer orders opening early next year.
Jaguar Type 01 Production Design Retains the Concept’s Drama
The production-spec Jaguar Type 01 stays remarkably close to the design philosophy established by the Type 00 concept. Its low roofline, long bonnet, short front overhang and extended rear section give it the proportions of a traditional grand tourer rather than a conventional luxury sedan.
At the front, the car gets a clean, grille-free appearance typical of a modern electric vehicle. Jaguar has used slim lighting elements and carefully sculpted body surfaces instead of traditional visual clutter.
The production car also features large 23-inch wheels, giving it an imposing road presence while reinforcing its performance-focused character. Jaguar says the design was developed through thousands of aerodynamic tests, with the Type 01 achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.23Cd.

Four-Door Electric GT With a Distinctive Silhouette
One of the biggest changes from the Type 00 concept is the move to a four-door configuration.
The Jaguar Type 01 has been designed to combine the dramatic proportions of a GT with the practicality of four doors. Jaguar has also paid considerable attention to the body surfacing, with frameless doors and hidden glass seals contributing to the extremely clean profile.
A particularly unusual feature is the rear quarter panel, which Jaguar calls the “Impossible Panel”. The complex aluminium panel requires a multi-stage manufacturing process to achieve its sharp shape.
The design also incorporates active aerodynamic elements, including deployable rear spoiler technology and active vanes that help balance aerodynamic efficiency with high-speed stability.
Jaguar Type 01 Interior Gets a Radical Digital Dashboard
The cabin is just as unconventional as the exterior.
The production Jaguar Type 01 interior features a huge 24-inch OLED display that stretches across the dashboard from the driver’s area towards the centre. Rather than using separate conventional instrument and infotainment screens, Jaguar has integrated the functions into one large display.
A separate seven-inch touchscreen is positioned on the centre console and provides additional controls for the front occupants.
The cabin is divided into individual seating areas by a central spine, while premium materials and metal-effect detailing are used to create a more sophisticated luxury atmosphere.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also supported, giving occupants familiar smartphone-based connectivity despite the highly futuristic dashboard layout.

No Traditional Rear-View Mirror
One of the most unusual technology features is the replacement of the conventional interior rear-view mirror.
Instead, Jaguar has integrated a rear-view display into the panoramic soundbar positioned across the cabin. This gives the Type 01 a cleaner dashboard and roof area while providing a digital view of what is happening behind the vehicle.
The panoramic soundbar also forms part of the car’s premium audio system, turning what would normally be a functional cabin component into part of the interior design.
118kWh Battery and 1,030PS Electric Powertrain
Underneath the dramatic bodywork sits Jaguar’s dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA).
The Type 01 uses an 850-volt electrical system and a 118kWh usable battery. The flagship specification develops up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm, making it the most powerful Jaguar road car yet.
Jaguar has confirmed a tri-motor electric drivetrain with intelligent torque vectoring. This allows the car to distribute electric power between the wheels according to driving conditions and driver inputs.
The result is claimed acceleration from 0–100km/h in around 3.1–3.2 seconds, depending on the market specification. Jaguar also quotes a 100–180km/h acceleration time of just four seconds.
Jaguar Type 01 Range and Fast Charging
The Jaguar Type 01 range is another major highlight.
Jaguar’s latest official US information quotes an estimated EPA range of up to 400 miles, equivalent to roughly 644km. Jaguar also says the car can achieve up to 320 miles of range during sustained highway driving at 75mph.
Meanwhile, Jaguar’s charging system supports 350kW rapid DC charging. Under suitable conditions, the Type 01 can add around 200 miles or 321km of range in approximately 13 minutes.
Earlier reports had referred to a range of more than 700km under other test-cycle estimates, so the final figure should be understood as market- and certification-cycle dependent rather than one universal range number.
Air Suspension and All-Wheel Steering
The Type 01 is not designed to be a straight-line performance car alone. Jaguar has engineered the chassis around the company’s traditional emphasis on handling and driving character.
The electric GT uses all-wheel steering, allowing the rear wheels to turn in the opposite or same direction depending on speed and driving conditions.
Jaguar says the rear axle can steer by up to six degrees, helping improve low-speed manoeuvrability while also enhancing stability at higher speeds.
The car also features air suspension and active damping technology, while its 50:50 weight distribution is intended to deliver a balanced driving character.
450-Litre Combined Storage
Despite its dramatic GT proportions, Jaguar has attempted to retain useful storage space.
The Type 01 offers more than 450 litres of combined loadspace, along with a powered tailgate.
The large glass roof and spacious four-seat cabin further reinforce the car’s grand-tourer positioning, allowing Jaguar to target buyers who want high performance without sacrificing long-distance comfort.
Jaguar Type 01 Production and Deliveries
The Type 01 will be manufactured in the United Kingdom and is the first production Jaguar to use the dedicated JEA platform.
Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull operations. Electric drive units and battery packs will be produced at Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be manufactured at Halewood.
Jaguar plans to open customer orders in early 2027, with first deliveries expected during the second half of the year.
Jaguar Type 01 Price
The new electric GT is positioned firmly in the ultra-luxury performance segment.
Jaguar has announced a starting price of around £130,000 in the UK, while the US-market starting MSRP is around $130,500.
For India, an official launch has not yet been confirmed. If Jaguar eventually brings the Type 01 to India, its price would likely be significantly higher than the overseas starting price because of import duties, positioning and local taxation.
The India pricing and launch timeline should therefore be treated as unconfirmed until Jaguar announces them officially.
Jaguar Type 01 vs Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT
The Type 01 enters a highly competitive luxury electric performance segment.
Its closest conceptual rivals include the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and upcoming high-performance electric grand tourers from other European luxury manufacturers.
However, Jaguar is taking a different approach. Rather than simply matching rivals on acceleration or battery size, the Type 01 focuses heavily on design, exclusivity, luxury craftsmanship and a dramatic GT experience.
The combination of more than 1,000PS, tri-motor all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering and a bespoke electric architecture gives Jaguar a strong technical foundation.
Jaguar’s Electric-Only Future Starts With Type 01
The importance of the Type 01 goes beyond one model.
Jaguar is repositioning itself as an all-electric luxury brand, with the Type 01 serving as the first production vehicle of this new generation.
The “Type” name connects the model to Jaguar’s historic vehicles, while “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and “1” signifies the first model of the company’s new generation.
Jaguar says the Type 01 establishes a new direction for the brand, combining its traditional focus on dramatic design and driving character with a completely new electric platform.
Market Positioning
The Jaguar Type 01 is positioned as a high-performance luxury electric grand tourer rather than a conventional executive sedan.
Its combination of extreme power, a large battery, rapid charging, advanced chassis technology and an unconventional cabin gives Jaguar a distinctive entry into the premium EV market.
The production car is particularly important because it demonstrates how closely Jaguar can translate its controversial Type 00 concept into a road-going model. The result remains visually bold while gaining the four-door practicality expected from a modern luxury GT.
AutoXRoom Verdict
The production Jaguar Type 01 is much more than a new electric car for Jaguar. It is the first major product representing the brand’s complete transformation into an electric-only luxury manufacturer.
With up to 1,030PS, 1,365Nm, a 118kWh battery, 850V architecture and an estimated EPA range of up to 400 miles, the Type 01 has serious technical credentials. Its 24-inch OLED dashboard, digital rear-view system, 23-inch wheels and dramatic four-door GT proportions make it equally distinctive inside and out.
Production is scheduled for 2027, with orders opening early in the year. If Jaguar succeeds in delivering the same visual drama and driving character promised by the production model, the Type 01 could become one of the most important and recognisable luxury EVs of the brand’s modern era.
