BMW 7 Series 2026 Launched in India: New Luxury Sedan Gets 400hp Engine and Advanced Cabin

BMW has launched the updated BMW 7 Series 2026 in India, bringing a refreshed design, upgraded technology and a more powerful petrol engine to the brand’s flagship luxury sedan. The facelifted model has been introduced in a single 740 M Sport variant, with an ex-showroom price of ₹1.95 crore. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 2026.

The updated sedan continues to be locally assembled at BMW Group’s Chennai plant. Alongside the petrol-powered 7 Series, BMW has also introduced the updated i7 electric sedan in India.

BMW 7 Series 2026 Price in India

The BMW 7 Series 2026 Price In India starts at ₹1.95 crore ex-showroom for the 740 M Sport. BMW is offering the facelifted petrol model in a single variant in the Indian market.

The on-road price will be considerably higher after registration charges, insurance and other applicable costs, so buyers should check the final quotation from BMW India before booking.

For customers interested in the electric version, the new BMW i7 50 xDrive M Sport is also priced at ₹1.95 crore, while the performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive is priced at ₹2.65 crore ex-showroom.

BMW 7 Series New Model Gets a Sharper Design

The BMW 7 Series New Model receives several exterior changes as part of its mid-life update. The front-end design has been cleaned up, while the illuminated kidney grille remains one of the sedan’s most noticeable styling elements.

The facelift also gets slimmer daytime running lights and vertically arranged main headlamp units. BMW has integrated the radar, cameras and other sensors more discreetly around the grille area, creating a cleaner front appearance.

The sedan continues with flush-fitting door handles and a long, elegant profile. New alloy-wheel designs and updated lighting elements further distinguish the facelift from the outgoing version.

BMW also offers several exterior paint combinations, including optional dual-tone finishes and BMW Individual colours.

BMW 7 Series Interior and Technology

The BMW 7 Series Interior remains focused on rear-seat comfort and high-end technology. One of the biggest changes in the facelift is BMW’s latest digital interface, including the pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision display.

The cabin features a 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 14.6-inch passenger display and BMW’s latest connected technology. A 31.3-inch 8K rear entertainment screen is also available for passengers, making the rear cabin particularly technology-focused.

Other premium equipment includes powered, heated, ventilated and massaging seats, powered leg rests, four-zone climate control, ambient lighting and a fixed panoramic glass roof.

The audio system is a 35-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup, adding another premium element to the cabin.

BMW 7 Series Engine and Performance

The updated 7 Series sold in India is now available only with a petrol powertrain. BMW has discontinued the diesel option from the facelifted India-spec range.

The BMW 7 Series gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It develops 400hp and 540Nm, with power sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW claims a 0-100kmph acceleration time of 5.4 seconds, while the top speed is rated at 250kmph.

This represents an increase over the outgoing 740i, which produced 381hp and 520Nm. The facelift therefore brings both cosmetic and mechanical updates to BMW’s flagship sedan.

BMW 7 Series Safety and ADAS Features

The new sedan also receives an extensive collection of driver-assistance technology. The India-spec 7 Series comes with Level 2 ADAS, along with systems designed to assist the driver during highway and urban driving.

The luxury sedan also gets adaptive two-axle air suspension and rear-wheel steering as standard, helping with ride comfort and manoeuvrability despite its large dimensions.

The technology package is complemented by multiple cameras, sensors and radar-based assistance systems.

BMW 7 Series Dimensions and Road Presence

The 2026 7 Series continues to be a large luxury sedan, measuring 5,395mm in length, 1,950mm in width and 1,550mm in height. Its wheelbase measures 3,215mm.

The long wheelbase provides substantial cabin space, particularly for rear passengers. The sedan also rides on 20-inch alloy wheels as standard in India.

With its large dimensions, illuminated grille and long-wheelbase silhouette, the 7 Series maintains its position as BMW’s flagship sedan.

BMW 7 Series vs Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The BMW 7 Series continues to compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in India’s premium luxury sedan segment. Both models focus heavily on rear-seat comfort, advanced technology, high-end materials and powerful engines.

BMW’s approach with the updated 7 Series combines a rear-focused luxury cabin with a performance-oriented 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

The BMW i7 also gives buyers an electric alternative within the same flagship sedan family.

BMW 7 Series and BMW i7 2026

BMW has updated the electric i7 alongside the petrol 7 Series. The new BMW i7 50 xDrive M Sport is priced at ₹1.95 crore, while the i7 M70 xDrive costs ₹2.65 crore ex-showroom.

The updated i7 50 xDrive uses a larger 112.4kWh battery and produces 455hp and 660Nm, while the i7 M70 xDrive develops up to 680hp and 1,100Nm. Both use all-wheel drive.

BMW is also locally producing the i7 in India, making India only the second country after Germany where the i7 is produced locally. The i7 M70 continues to arrive as a completely built-up unit.

Market Positioning

The updated BMW 7 Series 2026 combines a 400hp mild-hybrid petrol engine with a technology-heavy cabin and extensive comfort equipment. Its ₹1.95 crore starting price places it firmly in India’s flagship luxury sedan category.

The facelift also expands BMW’s technology offering through Panoramic Vision, an 8K rear entertainment display, Level 2 ADAS and advanced chassis systems.

AutoXRoom Verdict

The new BMW 7 Series brings a substantial update to BMW’s flagship sedan without changing its core formula. The 400hp six-cylinder petrol engine, 48V mild-hybrid system, rear-wheel drive, air suspension and rear-wheel steering provide the mechanical foundation, while the upgraded cabin focuses strongly on digital technology and rear-seat comfort.

With the petrol 740 M Sport priced at ₹1.95 crore ex-showroom, the updated 7 Series enters the Indian market alongside the refreshed BMW i7 lineup, giving buyers both combustion and fully electric flagship options.
