The BMW 7 Series 2026 has received a major facelift in India, bringing sharper styling, a completely redesigned technology-focused cabin and an upgraded petrol powertrain. BMW has launched the updated flagship sedan at a starting price of ₹1.95 crore, ex-showroom.
The new-generation update also brings several features inspired by BMW’s latest Neue Klasse models, including the new Panoramic Vision display and redesigned infotainment interface. The India-spec model is now available only with a petrol engine, while the previous diesel version has been discontinued.
BMW 7 Series 2026 Price in India
The BMW 7 Series price in India starts at ₹1.95 crore, ex-showroom. BMW is offering the facelifted sedan in a single 740 M Sport variant in India.
The new price represents an increase of ₹10 lakh over the outgoing petrol version. BMW has also locally assembled the updated 7 Series at its Chennai facility.
The updated 7 Series competes directly with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and other ultra-luxury sedans available in India.

New BMW 7 Series Gets a More Imposing Design
The BMW 7 Series 2026 retains the long-wheelbase proportions of the current generation but receives several visual changes.
At the front, the sedan gets a redesigned illuminated kidney grille with a more squared-off appearance. The split LED headlamp arrangement has also been revised, with slimmer daytime running lights positioned above the main lighting units.
The lower air intake has become wider, giving the flagship sedan a more imposing road presence. At the rear, slimmer and wider LED tail-lamps and a revised bumper complete the exterior update.
BMW 7 Series Interior Gets a Major Technology Upgrade
The biggest changes are inside the cabin. The BMW 7 Series interior now incorporates technology inspired by BMW’s newer-generation models.
The dashboard features a 17.9-inch central infotainment touchscreen along with a 14.6-inch passenger display. BMW’s full-width Panoramic Vision display stretches across the dashboard and provides key driving information directly within the driver’s line of sight.
The sedan also receives a new two-spoke steering wheel and a redesigned centre console with fewer physical controls and a new cylindrical drive selector.

31.3-Inch 8K Theatre Screen for Rear Passengers
Rear-seat passengers remain a major focus of the BMW 7 Series.
The sedan gets BMW’s massive 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen, allowing rear passengers to enjoy high-resolution entertainment while travelling. The rear cabin also features touch controls integrated into the doors.
The rear seats offer electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage functions, while powered leg rests and four-zone climate control further enhance the chauffeur-driven experience.
35-Speaker Bowers & Wilkins Audio System
The luxury experience is further enhanced by a 35-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
Other important equipment includes ambient lighting, a fixed panoramic glass roof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected-car technology and over-the-air software updates.
The new BMW 7 Series features also include Level 2 ADAS, giving the flagship sedan a comprehensive package of driver-assistance technologies.
BMW 740 Gets a 3.0-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine
The India-spec 7 Series is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine combined with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
The updated engine produces up to 400hp and 540Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
The sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in a claimed 5.4 seconds, while its electronically limited top speed is 250kmph.
Diesel Engine Dropped From the India Lineup
One of the biggest changes for Indian buyers is the discontinuation of the diesel-powered 740d.
The facelifted India-spec BMW 7 Series is currently offered only with the 740 petrol powertrain. This simplifies the lineup while bringing the latest mild-hybrid petrol technology to BMW’s flagship sedan.
BMW continues to offer diesel powertrains in selected international markets, but there is no diesel 7 Series variant in the current Indian range.
Adaptive Suspension and Rear-Wheel Steering
Despite its large dimensions, the 7 Series is designed to deliver a combination of comfort and driving agility.
The sedan comes equipped with adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering as standard. Rear-wheel steering helps reduce the turning circle at lower speeds while improving stability and manoeuvrability at higher speeds.
The car measures around 5,395mm in length with a 3,215mm wheelbase, giving rear passengers a particularly spacious cabin.
BMW 7 Series vs Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The primary rival for the BMW 7 Series in India remains the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
BMW’s flagship sedan differentiates itself through its technology-heavy cabin, rear-seat entertainment system and driver-focused chassis setup. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, meanwhile, continues to emphasise traditional limousine comfort and its own advanced cabin technology.
With the facelift, BMW has significantly strengthened the 7 Series’ technology package while retaining its performance-oriented character.
BMW i7 Continues Alongside the 7 Series
The petrol-powered 7 Series is sold alongside its fully electric sibling, the BMW i7.
The facelifted BMW i7 is available in 50 xDrive and M70 xDrive versions in India. The i7 50 xDrive uses a 112.5kWh battery and has a claimed WLTP range of up to 728km, while the M70 provides significantly higher performance.
Interestingly, the i7 50 xDrive is priced at the same ₹1.95 crore starting point as the petrol 7 Series, giving luxury buyers a direct choice between combustion and electric power.
BMW 7 Series 2026: Key Highlights
The new flagship sedan combines a 400hp turbo-petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology, rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Its technology package includes a 17.9-inch infotainment screen, 14.6-inch passenger display, Panoramic Vision, 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen and 35-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
The combination of adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering, massaging seats and Level 2 ADAS makes the 7 Series both performance-focused and highly comfortable.
Market Positioning
The BMW 7 Series 2026 continues to serve as BMW’s flagship luxury sedan in India. With the latest facelift, BMW has moved the model further towards a technology-led luxury experience while retaining the rear-wheel-drive character associated with the 7 Series.
At ₹1.95 crore, the petrol 740 M Sport is positioned below the current Mercedes-Benz S-Class pricing range, giving BMW a potentially attractive value proposition in the ultra-luxury sedan segment.
AutoXRoom Verdict
The new BMW 7 Series 2026 is much more than a cosmetic facelift. BMW has significantly upgraded the cabin with Panoramic Vision, a 17.9-inch touchscreen, a 14.6-inch passenger display and a massive 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen.
The 400hp six-cylinder petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology also gives the flagship sedan strong performance, while adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering maintain its luxury-car credentials.
With the diesel option removed and the petrol 740 priced at ₹1.95 crore, the updated 7 Series now offers a clear choice against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and its electric sibling, the BMW i7.
